With energy prices increasing at alarming rates, The Orchard Campsite installed Smart Card hook-up units for the 2022 season. This has helped many campers reduce the cost of hooking up by only paying for the energy they use, rather than a ‘best guess’ estimate of what an average camper might use. We are aware of some sites using the estimate method that are already charging almost £50 per night – and that’s before the increase!
We have now been advised by our energy supplier that the overall cost of a unit of electricity is set to double on 9th September 2022. Whilst we have been able to negotiate some mitigation to ease the increase, it is with regret that we must advise that from Friday 9th September 2022 we will have to increase the cost of electricity on a Smart Card hook up from 40p per unit to 75p per unit.
The effect of this will increase the typical average cost of electricity from £2 per pitch night to £3.75 per pitch night. You will remain in control, of course, and will only pay for the energy you use – whether you use more or less than the average.
Please think carefully about whether or not you need to hook up!
Remember, The Orchard Campsite charges phones and devices free of charge in the campsite shop. A power point is available on the end of the Snug for inflating airbeds. And the kitchen is equipped with a kettle, a toaster and a microwave along with free-to-use fridges and freezers.
